Travel Notes

Passport

Please be sure to have a valid passport with an expiration date at least 6 months from your date of travel.

If you need to get a passport or renew your passport, please allow a 6-8 week turn around time, so the sooner the better.

Before You Go

Download WhatsApp: most communication with local transportation, reservations, etc. will be through WhatsApp.

International Data: If you don't have an international data plan that includes Mexico, consider getting an eSIM card or SIM card to receive data. Wifi is available in most restaurants, but it can be unreliable.

Airports

The closest airport to San Miguel is about 1 hour away. Please refer to the transportation section for recommended options to get to San Miguel de Allende from the airport.

Reach out to Pilot Nate or Andrea for help finding a flight!

Here are your options!

Querétaro - QRO (1-hr)

San Miguel de Allende is about a 1-hour drive from the airport. There are direct flights with Volaris, Aeromexico, and United Airlines.

One thing to note; when leaving from QRO, they don't allow digital boarding passes. So make sure to factor in the time to check in at the front desk. It's a relatively small airport and the wait is usually negligible.

Del Bajío International Airport - Léon (BJX) (1.5-hr)

BJX is the most used airport for people traveling to San Miguel. It is about a 1.5-hour drive to San Miguel. However, people flying from the Northeast might find better flight options to Mexico City or Queretaro.

American and United also have direct flights through Houston, Dallas, and Chicago to BJX.

Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juarez (Mexico City International Airport) (3.5-hr)

San Miguel de Allende is about a 3.5-hour drive from the MEX airport. This is the most common direct flight option from the U.S. However, we have heard feedback (since the town is growing so much) that traffic can be an issue and double arrival time. We wouldn't recommend this airport if traveling on a time limit.

Transportation

Our wedding planner, Magnolia, offers concierge services for transportation from QRO & BJX Airports. There are Sedans for (1-2 people) up to Sprinter Vans (10-18 people).

Suburban (3-6): $3,280 MXN | $165 USD
Hiace (7-10): $4,095 MXN | $210 USD
Sprinter (10-18): $6,145 MXN | $310 USD
*Prices do not include tip. We suggest 10% for the driver.

Unless you book online/prepay or order an Uber, you must pay drivers in cash. It may be good to get some pesos before leaving the states to use when you arrive. Alternatively, you can get pesos at the airport from an ATM upon arrival.
